REGROUP 2022: OUR PROCESS

We took the last year off from running the residency in order to regroup and make way for a new generation of organisers. With a team of 30 volunteers we reflected and re-assessed our aims and approaches. With the help of feedback from residents of 2021, these three key themes emerged:

  1. How can we ensure the creation of more art? (focus on creative outputs and portfolio building alongside balanced and intentional party culture)

  2. How can we create a more inclusive and open culture? (particular themes - egos, cliques, lived experience, diversity, autonomy, fear, softness)

  3. How can we be more sustainable? (avoid burnout, create more supportive and efficient structures for communication and collaboration, ensure financial and environmental sustainability)

We then set about trying to answer how we could address these issues. We ran a number of fundraisers and community events to fund our process, platforming residents and inviting others into discussions around these themes. See our full process through our Miro board presentation below:

BAREBONES FRAMEWORK 2022 - 2023

Through the Regroup process we created a new framework for the residency which we called “Barebones”. The aim was to return to the basics of co-creation and centre the production of art whilst ensuring more sustainable and inclusive systems for community and collaboration.

The next steps to enact this framework were:

Resident Forum Launch
Handbook & Applications Launch

After a successful 2 week residency 29.08 - 11.09 2023, residents and crew from Residency 2023 will soon be receiving feedback forms and we will be hosting reflection and discussion sessions at 90mil to delve further into topics, particularly relating to community, that arose during the programme and may need more time to discuss. Stay tuned!
